OVERVIEW
ATON was retained by Commercial Liability Partners to perform environmental due diligence, demolition and asbestos abatement design and contractor oversight services, including asbestos air monitoring and third-party clearance, industrial hygiene air monitoring for fly ash constituents, groundwater monitoring and regulatory reporting, as well as fly ash pond remedial design and field services for several retired coal-fired power plants located throughout the country.
CHALLENGE
The environmental liabilities associated with coal-fired power plants is extensive and requires a thorough understanding of the complexities surrounding proper decommissioning and demolition of power plants to ensure the proper retirement and reuse of the sites for future development in compliance with new federal and state Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) rules.
SOLUTION / METHODOLOGY
We performed a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of plant assets, environmental due diligence and permitting, environmental insurance, plant decommissioning and decontamination requirements, project management and contractor oversight, and health & safety compliance.
OUTCOME
Multiple sites have been successfully decommissioned and safely demolished, and have been redeveloped into warehouse/logistics centers and inland port and marine terminal operations.
